Explicit Consent
ISFP Respects Your Right to Image
By participating in events organized by ISFP or events where the photojournalists of ISFP are accredited, you consent to the use of group photographs, comprising at least five people, for illustration in future communication materials and on the website.
Use of Photographs
In some circumstances, consent from the person represented may be presumed. Typically, three situations are identified:
- Photos taken in public places,
- Photos of crowds,
- Photos of public figures.
For instance, consent is not required for disseminating photos of individuals appearing in an image of a monument taken in a public place. Similarly, this applies to photos of crowds at events. However, if an individual appears in close-up in a photograph, they may invoke their right to image, even if the photo was taken in a public place or among a crowd.
There are three categories of public figures:
- Political figures,
- Celebrities,
- Individuals in the news.
Generally, it is assumed that these individuals tacitly agree to being photographed and having their likeness reproduced, provided the reproduction is related to their profession or the reason they are in the news. However, public figures may invoke their right to image if their likeness is used for commercial or advertising purposes or if it infringes on their privacy.
