For over three decades, she has been at the forefront of research into the cryopreservation of the human female gamete. She pioneered slow freezing of oocytes and established world’s first egg bank at Royal Women’s Hospital in 1996. She has presented and published widely on freezing of both mature human oocytes and human ovarian tissue and continues to play a key role in the development of this technology for clinical application.
She has been instrumental in the clinical implementation of a closed vitrification system for human oocytes and the births from heterotopic grafting of frozen thawed ovarian tissue. Her research has focused on fertility preservation, with a special interest in follicle development and in vitro maturation.
